So You Need a Stairlift?

By: Nicky Bullimore

For whatever reason, stairlifts come in all shapes and sizes and you don’t have to break the bank to get one.

Stairlifts are generally bespoke, that is because not all stair shapes are the same. You may require a straight stairlift, curved stairlift or perhaps a standing stairlift. Therefore, the best option is to call up a company and request a visit so that you get exactly the right stairlift you need.

The visit to assess your requirements should be free and should also give you some idea of costs and time to fit.

Don’t just stick to one company. Whenever you buy equipment such as stairlifts, or anything to do with making modifications to your home, it is wise to get more than one quote.

Ask the company to send you some brochures to give you an idea of the kind of stairlifts they are offering before you arrange a visit.

It is always good to seek out other peoples reviews of the companies you are considering.

Also ask if they do reconditioned stairlifts as they may be able to supply you with a stairlift that could be cheaper than paying for a new one.

Generally, for a standard straight staircase, you may find it easier to come across a suitable company who supplies reconditioned stairlifts.

If you are unable to find a suitable reconditioned stairlift and you need to purchase a new one; find out if the company buy back stairlifts.

Not all companies will buy used stairlifts, but they may buy back stairlifts provided by them.

Stairlifts don’t have to be overly expensive, but if you do find yourself paying a large amount, it is definitely worth finding out if you would be able to sell the stairlift if there comes a time when you no longer need it.

Time limits on how long it will take to install a stairlift will vary on the type of stairlift you require. For a standard stairlift it will be quicker to make and install than it would for a curved stairlift.

As most stairlifts are bespoke and made to measure, it can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months from when the representative visited your home or business to complete the installation.

Mobility is important to all of us and a stairlift really can make a world of difference to someone who finds the stairs more and more difficult to climb.

So if you are considering a stairlift either for yourself, or for someone you know, make sure to find out as much as possible before deciding which company you will use as a supplier so that you don’t end up with a stairlift that is not suitable.

This includes checking out the company for aftercare to iron out any nooks and crannies that may arise after the installation.
