Life Coach Course - How To Choose A Life Coach Course That Suits You

By: Regina Maniam

With the increased demand for life coaching, there is also a demand for the right kind of life coach course that will lead to certification for one to be recognized in the life coaching circles. Many a person who has done mentoring, on-the-job coaching or counseling and liked it thinks of life coaching as a potential business to go into. For some people, the thought of helping others in itself is something they want to do.

Getting out of a corporate world, this is one of the options that seem to be open to people. There are also a lot who jump into the band wagon because it is a possible income generator.

Currently, anyone who feels that they have the relevant skills can set themselves up as a life coach. However, more and more clients will be asking for certification and membership with professional bodies as possibly a minimum requirement to work with the life coach.

While the passion and raw talent can make a life coach successful, undergoing proper training can help in providing a complete picture of what life coaching is all about and probably learn new techniques as well.

If you are looking for a life coach course, there are a wide variety of such courses. It is important to check these out before you decide which course to take.

Here are some tips that can help you towards making this decision:

1. Check out with other coaches who have attended the life coach course.
2. Do they have resources for skill development?
3. Do they have contacts with other life coaching associations and bodies?
4. Is there a facility as part of the course for supervised practice with a practicing life coach?
5. Is guidance provided on how to set up a life coaching practice?
6. Do they provide opportunities for further professional development?
7. What are the kind of practical sessions that you will be exposed to? Do they have workshops, etc?

Of course, there are other things to look into:

1. The prerequisites of the life coach course
2. Length of the course
3. Cost of the course
4. The number of students who enroll
5. The reputation of the school and the instructors
6. Location of the school

It will be easier to go through this process if you can give points and weightage to each of these variables first and enter them into a table. Better if you can build a quick excel spreadsheet with some formulas. Then, as you get the information for the various life coach courses, enter the points. When you are done, you will be able to arithmetically see which is your preferred choice. Of course, you can then decide whether to opt for the life coach course which is top of the list or otherwise.

Do not just look at this as a mere "paper qualification" to get yourself recognized in the life coaching circles. Use the life coach course to learn as much as you can to add on to the knowledge you already have and build around your passion for this profession.
